Mulkey in the Absaroka

Post by TomTuriano »

Met Aaron Mulkey this past week when I was in Cody. Mulkey is father of two, and owner of Core Mountain Sports in Cody, a climbing gym, gear shop, book shop, beta barn, and base of operations for Jackson Hole Mountain Guides' Cody operations.

Mulkey is a highly skilled ice climber and kayaker with interest in exploring the Absaroka for unclimbed ice, and classic creek descents. He also is interested in summits, with an ascent of the north face of Needle Mountain and an attempt on Turret Pinnacle, both in the Shoshone South Fork.

A visit to his website is definitely worthwhile. There, he has trip reports on his summit climbs, ice climbs, as well as his many creek descents of runs that will boggle your mind. He has floated Deer, Cabin, South Fork (from Falls Creek meadow), Middle Creek, Big Creek, Grinnell Creek, Shoshone North Fork, Crandall Creek, Sunlight Creek, Clarks Fork, and probably many others. In the Bighorns, he has floated Tensleep, Shell, Painted Rock, Clear, and Tongue.
