Cache and Gros Peaks

Post by forrestmccarthy »

Amy, Wister, and I biked up Cache Creek to the wilderness boundary yesterday. From the boundary, we climbed the snow-free Northwest Ridge of Cache Peak. From there we skied a short couloir off the east side. We then traveresd along the benches at the head of Flat and Granite Creeks to Gros Peak. Skied a nice line off the North Shoulder of Gros Peak. We then skied back to the Flat/Cache divide and hiked back to our bikes.

The snow is going quick. Looking up from the wilderness boundary it doesn't look like there would be much skiing up there. Cache Peak was almost melted out however Gros Peak and the head of Granite still have a lot of snow and some great skiing. We only had to take our skis off for two very short sections on the traverse between Cache and Gros. I scouted the couloirs on the west side of Gros. They are all melted out. Looking over at Jackson Peak, which we also skied on June 19, the snowpack was significantly thinner.
